	Big Root Morning Glory (Ipomoea pandurata)	A trailing perennial vine with wide, heart-shaped leaves. White flowers are bell-shaped to 8 cm long, equally broad, with lavender throats. Male and female flower parts extrude from the throat. Bloom May-July.
	Boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum)	Perennial with hairy stems 0.6-1.5 m tall. Leaves are opposite, 9-20 cm long, 2-4.5 cm wide, fine toothed, resin dotted. Base of leaf completely surrounds the stem. Tiny white flowers are clustered in heads. Blooms Aug.-Oct.
	Bracken Fern (Pteridium aquilinum)	Widely triangular fronds, 2-8 dm tall, twice divided into pinnae (leaflets), the basal ones projecting forward. Fern contains shikimac acid and are highly carcinogenic. Mature leaves are poisonous to animals. Blooms July-Sept.
	Bull Nettle (Cnidoscolus stimulosus)	Perennial herb 0.5-10 dm tall with dissected or lobed alternate leaves. Entire plant is covered in stinging hairs. White flowers are united into a tube with 5 lobes. Blooms late March-Aug.
	Butterfly Pea (Clitoria mariana)	Trailing or twining perennial herbaceous vine. Leaves are divided into three leaflets. Showy flowers are pale blue or lavender to 6 cm long, 4 cm wide. Fruit is a flat legume. Blooms June-Aug.
	Butterfly-weed (Asclepias tuberosa)	Perennial herb 2-8 dm tall, with stout stems clustered from a crown. Leaves are alternate, 4-10 cm long, 3-25 mm wide. Hemispherical inflorescence is 2-5 cm broad. Flowers are red to yellow and attract butterflies. Blooms May-Aug.
	Coastal Plain Honeycomb Head (Balduina angustifolia)	Perennial with ribbed stems and alternate leaves. Yellow ray flowers are 3-5 toothed at apex. Flower receptacle is chaffy; chaff is united to form a honeycomb. This feature is definitive of the genus. Blooms July-Sept.
	Daisy Fleabane (Erigeron strigosus)	Annual herb with numerous heads of white ray flowers and yellow dic flowers. Blooms late April-Oct.
	Day Flower(Commelina erecta)	Erect or sprawling perennial. Leaves lance-like with basal sheaths. Flowers three parted. Petals blue. Blooms June-Oct.
	Dwarf Sundew (Drosera brivifolia)	Pinkish herb with glandular hairs on the flower scape and leaves that ooze a sticky secretion that contributes to the insect-catching function of the spatula-shaped leaves. Flowers have 5 white petals, 5-7 mm long. Blooms May-Aug.
	Eastern Milk Pea (Galactia regularis)	Trailing perennial herb. Leaves are divided into 3 leaflets, 1.2-5 cm long. Flowers are redish purple, 1.2-1.8 cm long. Flowers June to Aug.
	Fringed Meadow Beauty (Rhexia petiolata)	Perennial to 6 dm tall, with 4-angled and narrowly winged stems. Leaves to 2 cm long and 1.5 cm wide, with a rounded base and fringe of hair around the margin. Petals are purple to rose, 14-17 mm long. Blooms June-Sept.
	Grass-leaf Roseling (Callisia graminea)	Perennial herb 2-5 dm tall. Leaves are 0.2-3 dm long, 0.3-3 mm wide. The leaf sheaths are fringed with white hair. Petals are rose, 4-8 mm long. Blooms May-July
	Greater Tickseed (Coreopsis major)	Perennial herb 0.5-1 m tall with divided leaves. Yellow ray flowers are 2-4 cm long. Disk flowers are yellow or red. Blooms May-July
	Horsefly Weed (Baptisia tinctoria)	Bushy perennial 3-10 dm tall, blackening on drying. Leaves are divided into 3 leaflets, 0.6-2 cm long and 0.5-1.2 cm wide. Numerous yellow stalked flowers terminate the branches. Blooms April-Aug.
	Hyssop-leaf Thoroughwort (Eupatorium hyssopifolium)	Perennial with erect stems 0.5-1 m tall, appearing in clumps. Larger leaves are 1-12 mm wide and 10-40X as long as wide. Leaves appear in whorls of 3 or 4. Tiny white flowers are clustered in heads. Blooms late July-Oct.
	Kudzu (Pueraria lobata)	Invasive semi-woody vine 10-30 m long. Leaves divided into 3 leaflets, deeply lobed & hairy beneath. Flowers are violet-purple. Used to treat alcoholism, diabetes, deafness & gastroenteritis in China. Blooms July-Oct.
	Narrow-leaf Dawn Flower (Stylisma patens)	Spreading herbaceous perennial vine. Leaves are hairy, 2.5-5 cm long, 6-8 mm wide, reduced upward. Flowers are white on stalks that slightly exceed the subtending leaf. Blooms June-Aug.
	Narrow-leaf Ironweed (Vernonia angustifolia)	Perennial with stems arising from a crown, but without basal leaves. Stem leaves are 1.5-6 mm wide. Flowering heads of all disk flowers are pinkish to purple. Blooms late June-early Sept.
	Narrow-leaf White Topped Aster (Sericocarpus linifolius)	Perennial herb, 2-7 dm tall. Leaves are 4-8 cm long, 2-7 mm wide, hairy on the margins and not twisted at the base, with punctate glands beneath. Disc and ray flowers are white. Rays are 7-12 mm long. Blooms June-July.
	Orange Grass (Hypericum gentianoides)	Erect annual, 1-5 dm tall with ascending, wing-angled branches. Leaves are sessile, 1-5 mm long, to 0.5 mm wide. Flowers have 5 yellow petals 1-4 mm long. Blooms July-Oct.
	Partridge Pea (Chamaecrista fasciculata)	Annual herb 1.5-6 dm tall. Divided leaves are sensitive to touch with a saucer-shaped gland near the middle of the petiole. 1-6 flowers appear in clusters in leaf axils. Bright yellow petals are 1-2 cm long. Blooms June-Sept.
	Poor Joe(Diodia teres)	Erect or spreading annual with opposite sessile leaves, 2-4 cm long. Flowers are 4-parted. Petals are white to pink, united. The tube is 4-5 mm with lobes 1-2 mm long. The fruit is shaped like an upside-down pear. Blooms June-frost.
	Round-leaf Thoroughwort (Eupatorium rotundifolium)	Perennial with hairy stems 0.4-1.2 m tall. Leaves are opposite, 1-1.5X as long as wide, with rounded teeth. Tiny white flowers are clustered in heads. Blooms Aug.-Oct.
	Roundhead Lespedeza (Lespedeza capitata)	Perennial 0.5-2 m tall, silvery with dense velvety hairs. Leaves are divided into 3 leaflets, 1.5-5 cm long. Inflorescences are dense. Petals are yellowish with a purple spot. Blooms Aug.-Oct.
	Sandhills Goldaster (Pityopsis pinifolia)	Perennial herb, locally abundant, but found only in a few counties in the Sandhills. Stem leaves, 0.8-1.5 cm, are longer than the basal leaves. Flowers are yellow. Blooms Aug.-Oct.
	Sandhills Thistle (Cirsium repandum)	Biennial or possibly perennial, 0.5-0.8 m tall. Stems are leafy to apex, spreading and spiny. Purple tubular flowers occur in dense heads. Blooms May-July. delete
	Sandy Woods Chaffhead (Carphephorus bellidifolius)	Perennial 1.5-5 m tall. Basal leaves are 0.5-2 dm long, 0.5-2.5 cm wide. The inflorescence is 1/3 or more the length of the stem. Flowers are purple. A locally abundant endemic indicator of the NC pineland. Blooms Aug.-Oct.
	Savannah Mountainmint (Pycnanthemum flexuosum)	Perennial with gray, hoary, quadrangular stems 4-11 dm tall. Leaves are 1.5-5 cm long, 3-15 mm wide. Petals are white to lavender, 4-6 mm long. Blooms June-Aug.
	Sericea (Lespedeza cuneata)	Perennial with stems 3-12 dm tall. Leaves are divided into 3 grey-green leaflets 1-2.5 cm long. Flowers in clusters in the axils of the upper and medium leaves. Petals are creamy white marked with violet purple. Blooms July-Sept.
	Sheepbit (Jasione montana)	Annual herb 2-5 dm tall. Leaves are 1-3 cm long, 1.4-4 mm wide, sessile. Flowers are blue to lavender, in heads 2-3 cm broad. Rare. Blooms June-Sept.
	Smalls Goldenrod (Solidago pinetorum)	Perennial with stems 3-12 dm tall. Basal leaves are 7-15 cm long and 0.5-2.5 cm wide with teeth. Stem leaves are reduced upward. Inflorescence is about as long as broad. Ray flowers are yellow. Blooms July-Oct.
	Smooth Leaf Elephants Foot (Elephantopus nudatus)	Perennial with basal leaves 2-7 cm wide, giving the plant its common name. Purple flowers are all tubular. Three overlapping leaf-like bracts at the base of each flowering head form a triangle. Blooms late July-Sept.
	Sourwood (Oxydendrum arboreum)	Medium to large tree with alternate leaves, 0.8-2 dm long, 2.5-7 cm wide,narrowly toothed at apex. Flower are fragrant,urn-shaped,stalked on indeterminate terminal inflorescences. Petals are white, united, 5-lobed. Blooms June-July.
	Spoon-leaf Sundew (Drosera intermedia)	Rose colored insectivorous plant. Leaves narrowly spoon-shaped with tentacle-like glandular hairs 7-15 mm long with petioles 3-4X as long as the blade. Flower with 5 white petals tinged with pink, 5-8 mm long. Blooms July-Sept.
	Sweet Pepperbush (Clethra alnifolia)	Shrub to 2.5 m tall. Leaves are simple, alternate, hairy beneath. Fragrant white, stalked flowers appear in terminal unbranched inflorescences. Blooms June-July.
	Toothed White-topped Aster (Sericocarpus tortifolius)	Perennial herb with stems 4-10 dm tall. Leaves are sessile, toothed at apex. Larger leaves are basal on the plant. Ray flowers are white, 7-12 mm long. Disk flowers are brown to red. Blooms June-July
	Twining Snoutbean (Rhynchosa tomentosa)	Erect perennial, 1.5 dm tall with strongly-angled, hairy stems. Leaves are divided into 3 leaflets 2-8 cm long, 1/3 to 1/2 as wide, conspicuously veined with a velvety feel. Yellow flowers are closely clustered. Blooms June-Aug.
	Violet Lespedeza(Lespedeza violacea)	Perennial with arching-ascendant stems 3-7 dm tall. Leaves are divided into 3 roundish leaflets. Purplish flowers have petals 6-8 mm long. Blooms July-Sept.
	Water Lily (Nymphaea odorata)	Perennial aquatic herb with almost round leaves, purple beneath, to 3 dm wide. Flowers float. Petals are white or pink, 2-10 cm long. Blooms June-Sept.
	White Thoroughwort (Eupatorium album)	Perennial with erect hairy stems 4-8 dm tall. Larger leaves are 1.5-3 cm wide and 6 times as long as wide. All are hairy and have resin glands. Tiny white flowers are clustered in heads. Blooms June-Sept.
	Wild Sensitive Plant (Chamaecrista nictitans)	Annual plant 1-5 dm tall. Divided leaves are sensitive to touch with an slender-stalked, umbrella-shaped gland just below the lowest leaflets. Petals are bright yellow, unequal, 3-7 mm long. Blooms June-Oct.
	Winged Sumac (Rhus copallina)	Shrub or small tree to 7 m tall. Leaves are divided into 9-23 leaflets 3-8 cm long. The leaf stem (rachis) is winged. Tiny cream colored flowers are in terminal branched inflorescences 0.5-3 dm long and broad. Blooms July-Sept.
